| Stainless Flatware by Robert Welch | |
| Robert Welch trained as a silversmith at the
Birmingham College of Art and later moved to the Royal College of Art in
1952 where he specialized in stainless steel production. He opened
up his studio in 1955 in the 18th century silk mill at Chipping Campden
in the Cotswolds in England. His design team included most notably
John Limbrey who worked with Robert until Robert's death in 2000.
In 1965 he was awarded the Royal Designer for Industry. His sleek,
modern designs of candelebra and more are seen in commissions by the
Victoria and Albert Museum, the British Museum, the Museum of Modern Art
in New York, Canterbury Cathedral and No. 10 Downing Street; however his
cutlery designs have been sold more widely around the world than any of
his other "creative output." In 1969 a shop was opened in Chipping
Campden not far from the silk mill. Robert's children Rupert and
Alice have managed and directed the company since 1993. All
products are created by the design team in Chipping Campden...none by
outside designers. STAINLESS SPECIAL ...Click to view !!.... Pendulum by Robert Welch Link to our "sterling" page...www.rmsterling.com/sterling.html Link to our "silverplate" page...www.rmsterling.com/silverplate.html Link to our "stainless" page....www.rmsterling.com/stainless.html |

| Wedgwood China | |
| Established in 1759 by Josiah Wedgwood, the Wedgwood
pottery was located in Burslem, England (near Stoke-on-Trent). In
1766 he was appointed "Potter to Her Majesty" by Queen Charlotte and
thus named his creamware "Queen's Ware." In 1769 a new factory was
built in Etruria. The famous Queen's Ware set named "Frog",
created for Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia, was produced in
1774. By late 1700's, creamware, jasper, black basalt, redware and
pearlware were all being produced. Moonlight luster was added in
1805 for a 10 year period. Bone china was introduced in 1812 for a
10 year period and reintroduced in 1878. In 1915 Fairyland luster
was introduced; however all luster was discontinued in 1932. In
1940 a new factory was built in Barlaston and the Etruria location
closed in 1950. Many potteries joined the Wedgwood family in the
1960's and 70's including Coalport, Susie Cooper, Midwinter Companies,
Johnson Bros., Crown Staffordshire, William Adams & Sons, Mason's
Ironstone, Royal Tuscan, J.& G. Meakin and Precision Studios. CHINA SPECIAL ...Click to view !!...."Appledore" by Wedgwood Link to our "china" page...www.rmsterling.com/china.html |
